a different kind of carb hatred

WELL WELL WELL. i find myself with a half-hour to kill (just cast my vote, and will head to my friend baha's house for her birthday dinner soon), a cocktail in hand, and a cat on my lap. why not update?

here's what sucked this weekend: rode my scooter to a friend's house 7-ish friday night. wouldn't start at 1:30, so i walked back to her house and hung out for a bit, then took a cab home. i subscribe to the LET IT REST philosophy, which i think fixed everything. computer is fucking around? LET IT REST. scooter won't start? LET IT REST. et cetera. so i let it rest till the next morning and took the bus to try again at 9:30. no dice. apparently not enough resting. made emma drive me back there around 7:30 at night. has it rested enough? NO. by now i'm so frustrated i'm weeping openly on the street. curse its name on the way to dinner (by now, jubal is an "it"). sunday noon, drive down fully expecting more disappointment. yet this time, it starts the first time! i've taken it into the shop 3 friggin' times in the past month, always this complaint, always it's some kind of "carb adjustment" or "gunk in the carb." I HATE CARBS. i can't take it back; it's just too too retarded. so i'll just have to operate under the assumption i can't ride jubal somewhere and expect him to start again (unless it's right away). LET IT REST has let me down in this case. BOO.

ok, off to dinner. ethiopian!

afoot and off

jubal has been fixed; he needed a minor carb adjustment. i took him roaming today, to pick up a polo shirt and some new ink cartridges. lovely lovely day.

the polo shirt was acquired for a conference my company is putting on in arizona, for which i leave at the asscrack of dawn tomorrow morning. i need to look more professional than i usually do. no converse, no jeans, no t-shirts. boo. i don't really like arizona much as a state - too dry and too much turquoise - but it's being held at the biltmore which looks quite nice indeed. i picked a light blue polo. i figure that will blend into resort chic without doing pastels. indeed.

my brother's been back this past week and a half to have yet another surgery on his leg, this time because of a staph infection. boo-urns. but he's going back to school next week, so that's good. it's not awesome, but it could have been worse. i hope he heals in time for costa rica in january - though i think what he's worried about is the fact that he's not allowed to drink for two months (oh the horror for the college senior!).

while max was back, we watched some of shoah for one of his classes. the documentary itself is devastating. and hella long. however, as i was feeling absolutely horrible and depressed about life this past weekend, watching this sad sad film actually make me feel more cheerful. put some things in perspective. how awful is that? pretty bad.

we also watched part of the warriors and in the heat of the night. what a great movie the latter is. "they call me MISTER Tibbs." i love sidney poitier.

ALSO. there is a new puppy that lives in the unit next door to me: rocky, a bernese mountain dog. just like the one shannon kilbourne had in the babysitter's club, named astrid of grenville. don't ask me how i remember these things. if only i remembered more handy things instead. rocky is adorable, and just today discovered the 8-inch-high gap in the wall between our patios, so he came and visited me a few times. what an adorable puppy.

my hero

i adore sandra oh. when i was at UTA i had to do script coverage, and i'd recommend her for any awesome role i could. not that they took my advice. it's very exciting that grey's anatomy is back on. i love new tv.

today i was going to go to the folsom street fair, but it was really hot out. unusually so and no clouds. so then i was thinking, hey: everyone's going to be in leather chaps and vinyl and bondage gear or whatnot. they're going to be sweating a lot. stinky and lots of squeaking. so, i opted not to go. though, it would be fun to see the tan lines from the ball gags and other acoutrements. snap.

guess what awesome person has her motorcycle license permit? it's me. i'm awesome. i have been riding around on jubal though he has been starting erratically. perhaps i need gas. i will try that.

orange you glad

this is my new toy, the zen micro mp3 player. in citrus orange - YUM. thought about getting it in the bright aqua, but orange always calls to me. and i heeded the call this time. i. 've been trying to pick a player out for a really long time - i didn't want an ipod - and i finally decided on this one, and was too excited to find the rainbow of colors available. snap.

i'm going to virginia tuesday to visit the grandmas in richmond, and then heading up to charlottesville for matt and emily's wedding. i'll get to see laura, who left last week for a cross-country road trip. she's starting her Masters in Health Sciences at Johns Hopkins in September. when she left, it was like it didn't happen, since i knew i was going to see her at the wedding. maybe it will sink in after i come back here...

new friends pictures on the perpective page.

the weekend in which

we visit the outdoor portion of zeitgeist (a bar) and take many pictures:

we visit geyserville. but i am too lazy to put all the tennis pictures up right now, so here are some samples (pose, action, beefcake):

also, take a look at these awesome socks emily brought me back from japan. they are like RINGU, but on socks! "you are already dead." did you know you could find socks so evil? and with separated toes. that seems too too innocent for such maleficent socks.

OH AND: HERE IS A PICTURE OF MY SCOOTER, JUBAL.

shoppin' with mr. cooper

max and i went to pick him out some glasses yesterday. after an hour of trying to remember what each pair looked like, i hit on the brilliant idea of taking pictures of each pair. this was a boon to us, and we picked out these ones:

i like them. the style reflects a compromise of me trying to get him to move towards a heavy dark rim and max wanting non-geek chic rims. i have definitely persueded him closer. then while waiting, we decided to try on some more styles:

here is a picture from saturday night. please to notice the delectable muff chris is sporting. he bought it for me at the fillmore jazz festival when he was super drunk.

yay! it's so soft. i felt kind of guilty (but not really) for taking advantage of his lushitude, so i bought him some pizza later.

guess what. i am getting a scooter, an italjet velocifero. it is going to be too too awesome. i am getting it from chris' friends james, who is also turning out to be my pen pal. we are very verbose and write emails that are long and gregarious. it is haunted by his ex-wife. i will exorcise it, will name it, and will paint it aqua!

i hear the fireworks booming outside. happy america day.

summertime

strains of music from the fillmore jazz festival are filtering up from the street. excellent people watching from my balcony. chris is supposed to come in and walk the fair with me. i am supposed to be extra vigilant about building security because of the festival (we've had some garage break ins - my back car window got smashed in :-( which sucked), but luckily i love staring at people anyway. we're going to a comedy show later tonight, to benefit the family of one of chris' friends who passed away a few weeks ago.

no plans so far for 4th of july. i hope it's not foggy so we can see the fireworks. laura comes back from 3 weeks in england wednesday. we've missed her. this is a test run for when she leaves for johns hopkins in a few weeks. grrr.
